My Three(3) years Journey at Kabale University: A Freshman’s Tale
It was October 25, 2021, when I stepped into the world of higher education at Kabale University, also known as “A University Without Walls.” With government sponsorship in hand and a heart full of hope, I arrived fresh in mind, body, action, and spirit. My journey began in the village where I was born, taking me from the familiar to the unfamiliar. It was a pleasure to sit in lecture rooms alongside students from a variety of backgrounds, united by the same name of the university. Kabale University is a place without walls, where boundaries disappear and learning knows no bounds. I had officially begun my journey.
Being a freshman, I experienced a mix of excitement, curiosity, and a bit of nervousness. In my experience, Kabale University provided me with the perfect environment to thrive in a world of opportunities and challenges. As the campus is nestled in the serene hills of Kabale, it provided a conducive environment for me to concentrate on my studies and achieve academic excellence. The tranquil surroundings and state-of-the-art facilities provided an ideal environment for learning and personal development.
In the course of my travels, I formed friendships that would last a lifetime. There was Mr Ssebaggala Emmanuel, a close friend with whom I shared countless moments – late-night study sessions, deep conversations, and the joys and struggles of university life. My journey would not have been the same without his companionship, and our bond grew stronger with each passing day.
I was proud to be a member of the Faculty of Computing, Library, and Information Sciences. The faculty was more than just a place for learning; it was a nurturing environment where lecturers and tutors served as parents. In addition to guiding and mentoring us, they ensured that we were on the right path.
One such mentor was Mr. Mabirizi Vincent, whose wisdom and encouragement played a significant role in shaping my academic career. Dr. Hussein Muhaise, my supervisor from the time of my internship until the completion of my final year project, was also an important figure in my career. As a result of his unwavering support and guidance, I have been able to achieve success.
A special mention should be made of Kabale University’s management, particularly our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joy C. Kwesiga, whom I regard as a mother figure. Through her compassionate leadership, the university was able to remain a place of safety, support, and growth.
Our Dean of Students, Mr. Tukamushaba Amos, was like an uncle to me and to us (the students). He was always willing to listen to my concerns whenever I had them. It is impossible to overstate the importance of his role in student welfare.
The various associations and communities at Kabale University also provided me with a second family. I was particularly involved with the Kabale University Government Sponsored Students Association (KUGSSA) and the Computing Students Association of Kabale University (COSAKU). By participating in these groups, I was able to establish connections with fellow students, exchange ideas, and grow as a leader. I developed my passion for technology through tech communities, such as the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador program, which I had the honor of leading as a pioneer, and the IndabaX AI Club. I also participated in YouthMappers, which further expanded my network and skills. At Kabale, I was surrounded by a big family of friends and mentors, all of whom contributed to my fruitful stay at the university.
In my time at Kabale, I achieved academic excellence, developed strong leadership skills, and developed a network of lifelong friends and mentors. My involvement in tech communities, my role as a student ambassador, and my successful completion of my final year project are just a few of the milestones that I am proud of.
As I look forward to my graduation from Kabale University, where I will receive a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, I reflect on the many benefits I have gained from my time there. My education was not limited to textbooks and lectures; it was a holistic experience that prepared me for the challenges of the real world. Through this program, I was able to gain valuable knowledge, practical skills, and the confidence to pursue my goals.
The journey was not without its challenges, however. There were times when there was doubt, times when the workload seemed overwhelming, and instances where it was difficult to balance academics with personal life. With determination, the support of my parents at home, and the encouragement of my friends and mentors, I was able to overcome these obstacles. I attribute my success to my parents’ unwavering belief in me and the support they provided.
To any student considering their next step in education, I would strongly recommend Kabale University. There is no doubt that it is a place where you will not only receive a quality education, but also be able to grow personally. In the future, I am looking forward to acquiring additional qualifications from Kabale University.
In conclusion, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the university administration, my friends, parents, mentors, lecturers, and everyone who was a part of my journey at Kabale. It has been a pleasure working with you and receiving your support and guidance.
Ultimately, Kabale University has been more than just an educational institution for me. It has been a place of growth, discovery, and transformation. In stepping into the future, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and relationships that have shaped me into the person I am today. Even though my time at Kabale University has come to an end, its impact will endure for a lifetime.
It is indeed a university without walls
