Vicent Mabirizi

Instruction Design Officer

Mabirizi Vicent is a dynamic, results-oriented researcher known for his creativity, analytical thinking, and customer-focused approach. He upholds values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for all. Vicent is a versatile researcher with a strong skillset in scientific research, requirement engineering, large-scale data analysis, and problem-solving in design and systems integration.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science. He holds a Master of Science in Health Information Technology and graduated with First Class Honors in his Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. As a standout student, he is the recipient of the BIT Convocation Award for the Class of 2018. He has further strengthened his professional profile with certifications including Instructional Design for Active Learning (Alison, CPD Certified), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Google Certified Associate Cloud Engineer (GCACE)
With over seven years of university-level teaching experience, Vicent has delivered a wide range of computing and data-focused courses, including Object-Oriented Programming (Java), Structured Programming (C), Scripting Languages, Mobile Application Programming, Database Programming, Web Design and Development, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning Techniques, Data Mining, and Data Management and Visualization. His teaching contributions span several institutions, including Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda Christian University, and Kabale University.

Beyond teaching, Vicent has played an active role in advancing Ethical and Responsible AI practices within academic institutions. He has contributed to staff capacity building on the responsible use of Generative AI by designing and delivering training sessions for both academic and non-academic staff, with a focus on ethical use, academic integrity, data protection, and human–AI collaboration in teaching, research, and administration.

In addition to his teaching career, Vicent has extensive experience in grant writing. Over the past six years, he has successfully secured five research grants from national institutions, including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, MUST, and the Directorate of Research and Grants, Kabale University.

His research interests center on the application of Artificial Intelligence to address pressing health-sector challenges. His recent work focuses on improving the detection and classification of DICOM medical images using deep learning techniques, with an emphasis on developing ethically grounded and clinically relevant AI solutions.

AI for Healthcare: Exploring the applications of AI in healthcare, including medical image analysis, disease diagnosis and Prognosis, and healthcare management optimisation.
