Kabale University is pleased to announce the reopening of the Call for Research Scholarships under the Migration and Displacement Action Plan for Sub-Saharan Africa (MAPS) project, co-funded by the European Union. This reopening specifically targets Senegal, following the need to identify additional qualified candidates.

The new application period runs from 15 September to 28 September 2025 (11:59 pm East Africa Time). This short window allows the evaluation process to be completed by the first week of October 2025.
The MAPS project aims to enhance research and awareness on migration and forced displacement across Sub-Saharan Africa. It focuses on four thematic areas:
- Peace: Conflicts, borders and border policies, human rights
- People: Gender, age, disabilities and vulnerabilities
- Planet: Climate change, disasters, natural hazard stressors, resilience
- Prosperity: Education, employment, health, housing, equality, socio-spatial inclusion
Through these scholarships, young researchers will have the opportunity to generate evidence-based research to inform policy recommendations and improve migration management across the region.
Scholarship Details
- Target Country: Senegal
- Number of Scholarships: Up to 4 scholarships available for nationals and/or legal residents of Senegal
- Duration: 28 months, starting July 2025 and ending by November 2027, with a possible extension of 3 to 6 months
- Benefits: Monthly stipend, coverage of research costs (including travel and data collection), training opportunities, participation in three MAPS summer schools, and provision of a laptop
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be nationals of or legally entitled to work in Senegal
- Be early-career researchers (no more than 5 years after PhD or 7 years after Master’s) in relevant disciplines such as Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Economics, Engineering, Public Health, Computer Science, Law, or related fields
- Demonstrate interest in migration and forced displacement issues
- Be proficient in English and French
Application Process
Applications must be submitted online only through the official Google Form by 28 September 2025 at 11:59 pm (EAT).
Applicants should upload the following:
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
- Research proposal
- Letter of support from a university or research supervisor
- Academic transcripts and relevant certificates
Late submissions or applications via email will not be considered.
Selection Procedure
The selection will be conducted by a committee of experts and will include:
- Pre-selection based on academic qualifications, research proposal quality, experience, language proficiency, and motivation.
- Oral interviews to be held remotely around 6 October 2025.
