The Department of Library and Information Science, Kabale University, is one of the newly established units under the Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Sciences. LIS is striving to be a place to grow from hope to agency through knowledge.
Its mission is to contribute significantly towards the development of an information literate Ugandan society. Therefore, it focuses on education and training Library, Records and Information service personnel while maintaining well-recognized standards in its curricula.
The department was established to train professionals in the fields of Library, Records/Archival administration and Museum studies. The department was first established in 2007 with BLIS, DRM, CLIS & CRM. Currently, the programmes on offer are MIS, BLIS, BRIM, DLIS, DRM and DMRM.
Around 2014, BRIM a new program was developed and later in 2019, a Diploma of Medical Records Management (DMRM was brought on board.
The primary focus of the Library and Information Science program is to prepare students to enter library, information management, records/archival administration careers. During their study, students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values that are fundamental to professional competence in the information services field.
Many graduates work as professionals in Local Government, Ministries, Public libraries, Academic libraries as well as Records centers. This department is run by a team of dedicated full-time teaching staff. The depatrment is also run with the help of  dedicated Part- Time members drawn from practicing professionals around Kigezi region.
