Education – Eng. Dr. Mbabazi Anania holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada awarded in 2004; a Master of Engineering Science degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia, awarded in 1995; and a first-class honours Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Makerere University, Uganda, awarded in 1992.
Professional Memberships – Eng. Dr Mbabazi is a Fellow of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE); a Registered Engineer with the Uganda Engineers Registration Board; a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (USA); a Certified Public Private Partnership Professional (CP3P) with APMG International (USA); a Certified Arbitrator/Mediator with the Centre for Arbitration & Dispute Resolution (CADER), and a member of the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda.
Academic Work – Eng. Dr. Mbabazi teaches the following courses (undergraduate and postgraduate): Management: project management, civil engineering economics, advanced engineering economics, project management and control. Highways: strength of materials, soil mechanics, foundations, transportation planning and modelling, highway engineering, traffic engineering and management, advanced mix design, performance and rehabilitation of pavements. Construction Law: basis law & governance structures, construction law, business law, tort law. Contracts law and management, Research: Undergraduate and postgraduate thesis.
Work Experience –Eng. Dr. Mbabazi is a very experienced Civil Engineer with over 30 years of experience, 15 of which have been in university teaching/research and the other 15 in engineering practice covering design and construction supervision of infrastructure projects (roads, airports, water and buildings). He practices with AIM Engineering (U) Ltd one of the leading engineering consulting firms in Uganda as the Managing Director and has previously worked with East Africa Marine Transport as the Managing Director, United Nations Capital Development Fund at the Lead Specialist – Transport Infrastructure, ILISO Consulting Pty Limited as the Managing Director, Technology Consults Ltd as the Chief Executive Officer, Civil Aviation Authority as the CHOGM Project Manager, National Housing and Construction Company Limited as the Project Development Manager, Shell (U) Ltd as the Retail/Engineer.
Strategic Management – Eng. Dr. Mbabazi has served as a member of the board of directors of both private and public institutions such as Board Investment and Project Monitoring Committee, National Social Security Fund; Director, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority; Director, Uganda Posts Limited; Director; Uganda Communication Commission [Rural Communications Development Fund], Director [Chairman]; Crossroads Programme: Roads Industry Council; Chairman, Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers; President, Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers; President, Federation of Engineering Institutions of East Africa; Director, Technology Consults Limited; Director [Chairman], ILISO Consulting (Pty) Limited; Director [Chairman], AIM Engineering (U) Limited, Uganda.
Construction Claims Experience -Eng. Dr. Mbabazi is a leading construction claims expert having pursued advanced research at PhD level in the quantification and analysis of construction claims, thereby inventing the Modified But For and the Daily Windows Analysis which was pear reviewed and published in the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management Volume 131 Issue 10 – October 2005. American Society of Civil Engineers. He has served as an arbitrator, mediator, adjudicator, expert witness, contract specialist of over 100 claims involving both private/public organisation, Client/Contractor/Consultant.

Roadway Design: geometric design of highways, road alignment, intersection design, and the incorporation of safety features.
Maintenance and Rehabilitation: pavement maintenance techniques, bridge rehabilitation, and the use of technology for asset management.
