Call for Book Chapters: Civil Society and Good Governance – A Critical Interface

Kabale University is pleased to announce a Call for Book Chapters under the theme “Civil Society and Good Governance: A Critical Interface.” Scholars, researchers, and practitioners are invited to submit high-quality manuscripts that explore the dynamic roles, challenges, and opportunities of civil society in promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

This special edition will focus on Administrative Ethics, Integrity and Anti-Corruption as core or cross-cutting themes within the broader discipline of Public Administration.

Despite ongoing efforts by state institutions and civil society organizations, corruption remains a stubborn issue affecting governance across Africa. This publication seeks to interrogate critical questions such as: Why does corruption persist? and What strategies can strengthen ethical governance at both horizontal and vertical levels?

Sub-Themes

Submissions may address (but are not limited to) the following areas:

  • The Theory of Corruption: The Unending Debate

  • Civil Society’s Role in Enhancing Good Governance

  • Ethics, Integrity, and Public Sector Accountability

  • Anti-Corruption Mechanisms and Civil Society Initiatives

  • Civil Society, Governance, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Technological Innovations and Civil Society’s Role in Governance

  • Privatization of State Institutions and the Failure of Neoliberal Reforms

  • Corruption in Emergency Situations: Civil Society’s Oversight Capacity

  • The Weakening of Civil Society

  • Conclusions and Recommendations

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract Length: 200–300 words

  • Manuscript Length: 4,000–6,000 words (excluding references)

  • Citation Style: APA 7th Edition

  • Submission Deadlines:

    • Abstract: 15th June 2025

    • Full Paper: 5th July 2025

Manuscripts should include the following sections: Title, Author(s) Affiliation(s), Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Literature Review (if applicable), Methodology, Results/Findings, Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations and References.

All submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer review process.
