Call for Innovation Concepts in the Maize-Based Agro-Food Ecosystem Value Chain (SUESCA Project)

Kabale University invites all students to submit innovative concept ideas under the SUESCA Project (Strengthening University Delivery of Entrepreneurship Skills for Community Engagement and Action Research in Uganda), implemented in collaboration with Uganda Martyrs University, Bugema University, and Uganda Christian University.

This initiative focuses on strengthening entrepreneurship skills and promoting climate-adaptive technologies within the maize-based agro-food value chain, with the aim of enhancing self-employment and job creation among young people.

What the Project Offers
Successful applicants will benefit from:

  • Access to workspace at the Kabale University Innovation and Business Incubation Center (KABBIC)
  • Funding support for innovative ideas
  • Support for Intellectual Property (IP) protection
  • Capacity building in entrepreneurship and business development

Eligibility

  • Open to all Kabale University students (Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s, and Postgraduate levels)

Requirements for Submission
Applicants are required to submit:

  • A 1–2-page concept note clearly outlining:
    • The project idea
    • The problem being addressed
    • Proposed solution and innovation
    • Implementation budget
  • Innovations should focus on:
    • Maize-based products such as food, animal feed, beverages, fertilizers, or non-food products
    • Value-added products within maize-based value chains
  • Applicants must demonstrate:
    • Readiness to develop the innovation into a viable business
    • Willingness to pitch the idea in a five-minute presentation to a panel of experts

Special Considerations

  • Team submissions are highly encouraged and have a higher chance of funding
  • Inclusion of youth outside Kabale University in teams is allowed
  • Female applicants are strongly encouraged and will be given favorable consideration
