Department of Human Rights and Peace
This department aims to equip students with a great deal of human rights knowledge in relation to the study of law and its legal systems. The department is vital in enabling students to have a comprehensive understanding in the nature of right right-based approach and how it intersects with duties, obligations and liabilities. The application of Human rights in times of peace and in times of war is explained among students in terms of contextualising rights in a particular situation. In essence, students are introduced to civil and political as well as socioeconomic and cultural rights. The extension of rights in other areas such as land law concerning property rights and commercial rights such as intellectual property and family law in relation to conjugal duties, parental and succession rights. This will be done through exploring how human rights interact with theoretical, practical and cultural underpinnings with a socio-legal insight.
