Dr. Tibesasa Ruth

Lecturer - History

Ruth is a field archaeologist whose research interests are Late stone Age and early farming communities of eastern Africa. She has a PhD in Archaeology  from  the University of Pretoria, South Africa where she was focusing on employing multidisciplinary methods to explore the archaeology of farming communities on the northern shores of Lake Victoria Nyanza, eastern Uganda. She is particularly concerned with the process of transition from Late Stone Age to Early Iron Age farming. Ruth  also holds Master of Arts Archaeology Degree of University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and Bachelor of Arts Education Degree of Makerere University (Muk). She also holds a certificate in Environment and Social Impact Assessment – Makerere University, and a certificate in Intangible cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development- Cross Cultural Foundation Uganda with support from UNESCO. She is currently on mentorship program of Rewriting World Archaeology with Antiquity Journal, University of Durham, UK.

Ruth has been involved in a number of archaeological researches at national and international level since 2001 where she has surveyed and excavated sites dating from the Holocene to 18th century. She has for instance excavated for University College London (UCL), African Archaeology Network (AAN) Uganda, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), University of Pretoria, University of Washington USA, Sealinks Project Oxford University as well as Max Planck institute of Human history, Germany. She has since 2009 worked at Universities of Kyambogo and Uganda Christian University (BBUC) as a history lecturer and she is currently working with Kabale University as a history lecturer.
