Prof. Ogolo Emmanuel Omonigho

Professor

Professor Emmanuel Omonigho Ogolo is a Nigerian academic and atmospheric physicist with over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. He holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Ibadan (2002), having graduated as the Best Graduating Student in the School of Science during his B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in 1992.

He currently serves as Professor of Physics at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), a position held since October 2014, and previously served as Head of the Department of Physics (August 2021–July 2024). His academic career progressed through Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (Lecturer, 1993–2003) before moving to FUTA, with a sabbatical year as Reader at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He is currently serving as a Visiting Scholar at Kabale University, Kabale, Uganda, under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Programme of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His research specializes in atmospheric and micrometeorological physics, with active involvement in major collaborative projects including:

The Nigerian Micrometeorological Experiment (NIMEX), studying surface heat fluxes in the boundary layer
DACCIWA (Dynamics-Aerosol-Chemistry-Cloud Interactions in West Africa), an EU-funded (€8.75M) international research initiative
Field measurements of rainfall parameters and quantitative precipitation estimation for radio wave attenuation prediction

He is an active peer reviewer for several journals (including Elsevier titles), an external examiner for Physics departments at multiple Nigerian universities, and a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Physics and the Nigerian Meteorological Society. He delivered FUTA’s 179th Inaugural Lecture in April 2025 on Earth’s atmosphere and climate
