Abstract

Abstract
Community outreach remains a core community service periodically undertaken by the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at Kabale University. This mandate aligns with the University’s broader objective of enhancing productivity, inclusiveness, and the overall wellbeing of the population. In pursuit of strengthening academic impact within communities, the department extended its outreach activities to the Nyakabande Refugee Transit Centre in Kisoro District. The initiative commenced with a pilot team that engaged the Commandant of the Transit Centre to seek consent, harmonize expectations, and jointly develop an activity schedule with the refugee community. In addition, the team collaborated with Radio Mambura in Kisoro to facilitate publicity and mobilization for the planned outreach activities. This preparatory phase was successfully executed, laying a solid foundation for meaningful community engagement and demonstrating the department’s commitment to addressing social challenges through participatory, well-coordinated interventions.
