Increasing Access to Sickle Cell Screening Services Using a Customized Smartphone and Artificial Intelligence Deep Learning Techniques

Description

This project was funded by government of Uganda through Mbarara University of Science and Technology to develop deep learning models which will accept blood smear slides as input and classify them into sickle or non-sickle cells. This models were  then installed on a customized, portable, and cost-
effective smartphone-based device ready to be used for sickle cell screening at health centres
across the country thus taking sickle cell services closer to the community.
