Simon Byamukama is a distinguished Ugandan academic and environmental specialist currently serving as a Full-Time Assistant Lecturer at Kabale University within the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Department of Environmental Science. With a career spanning over two decades, he has established himself as a vital figure in the Kigezi sub-region, blending academic instruction with proactive community leadership. His educational foundation is extensive, featuring a Master of Science in Environment and Natural Resources and a Master of Project Planning and Management from Kabale University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Environment and Disaster Management from Uganda Christian University. Furthermore, he holds specialized certificates in Advanced Remote Sensing and GIS, Higher Education Teaching, Public Health Administration, and Financial Management.
In his academic role, which began in 2007, Simon is dedicated to mentoring students and conducting research that addresses critical ecological challenges. His research interests, as reflected in his scholarly associations, include investigating the effects of Eucalyptus tree species on soil properties, the impact of poor solid waste management on community health, and the socio-economic benefits of ecotourism for local livelihoods. He possesses a diverse technical skill set that includes proficiency in SPSS for data analysis, ArcView GIS, and website design, alongside practical expertise in computer repair and maintenance.
Beyond the university, Simon is a prominent social entrepreneur and advocate for sustainable development. He is the Executive Director and Senior Research Consultant of the Virtual Voluntary High-Brain Consult and Resource Center and the initiator of the Lusuganda Development Initiative (LUSUDI), a non-profit organization focused on environmental conservation and social accountability. His leadership experience is further highlighted by his tenure as the President of the LIONS Club International in Kabale and his current role as the Coordinator of the Kigezi Civil Society Forum. Simon is a multilingual professional, fluent in English and Rukiga-Runyankore, with a strong command of several other regional languages, enabling him to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across East Africa.

Since joining the Department of Environmental Sciences at Kabale University, Simon Byamukama has been actively involved in the academic and professional development of students.
