Kabale University is honored to welcome Professor Anne Mette Kjær, a distinguished scholar and Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark, as a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences for the period 2025–2028. Her appointment is part of the collaborative Food Systems Governance Project between Kabale University and Aarhus University, aimed at strengthening academic and research ties between the two institutions.
With over 25 years of expertise in governance, development, and political economy, Professor Kjær brings a wealth of knowledge to Kabale University. Her research focuses on revenue bargaining, fiscal states, and the political economy of development in Sub-Saharan Africa, with extensive fieldwork experience in Uganda and Tanzania.
During her tenure, Professor Kjær will:

Supervise Master’s and PhD students in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Provide research mentorship and facilitate training sessions for postgraduate students.

Deliver public lectures on governance, development policy, and political economy.

Support collaborative research and academic exchanges under the Food Systems Governance Project.

Contribute to policy-relevant insights for Uganda and the broader East African region.
Professor Kjær’s prolific academic contributions include publications in leading journals such as African Affairs, Journal of Institutional Economics, and World Development, as well as co-authored books like The Politics of African Industrial Policy (Cambridge University Press). Her latest work, The Politics of Revenue Bargaining in Sub-Saharan Africa, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press.
Beyond academia, she has held key advisory roles, including Chair of the Development Policy Council (Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and board memberships with DanChurch Aid and the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy.
