The Department of Mathematics at Kabale University became an independent unit within the Faculty of Science in 2020. Before that, from 2017, it operated as a joint department of Mathematics and Physics. Currently, the Department is staffed by seven full-time academic members who are committed to maintaining the highest standards in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.

It offers a Master of Science in Mathematics and provides teaching support to several other departments, including the Department of Science Education and the Department of Chemistry. More than 500 students are enrolled in mathematics courses across the university.

The Department is actively involved in community outreach and cutting-edge research. It is home to two research groups:

Applied mathematics group – specializing in computational and mathematical modeling.
Pure mathematics group – focusing on commutative algebra and mathematical analysis.

Mission: To provide an accessible and supportive environment for teaching, learning, research, and community engagement in mathematics.

Vision: A distinguished center of mathematical excellence in the Great Lakes Region and beyond.

Goal: To produce proficient mathematicians equipped to solve local and global challenges.
