- 1975 – 1978: Makerere University, Kampala, B.A, Honors Upper with Second Class Diploma in Education. 1982 – 1984: Delhi University (India) Master of Arts Degree - Philosophy 1984 – 1986: Delhi University (India,) Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), First Class with Distinction. Title of thesis: A comparative Study of Edmund Husserl’s Phenomenology and Karl Popper’s Critical Rationalism. 1990-1996: Makerere University, Kampala. Tittle of thesis: Growth of knowledge; 20th Century perspectives with special Reference to Karl Popper’s Critical Rationalism and Jurgen Habermas’s Critical Theory. Doctor of Philosophy.
Edward Wamala Is Professor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Psychology Department, Kabale University.
Wamala joined Makerere University for a Bachelor of Arts Degree and concurrent Diploma in Education in 1975. He graduated with an Upper Second Class Degree in 1978. He taught in Secondary School for 2 years and in 1982 won a Commonwealth Scholarship that enabled him join University of Delhi (India) for his MA- Philosophy and M.Phil Philosophy degrees courses.
In 1986, Wamala joined Makerere University Service, at the rank of Lecturer and left the University in 2023 at the rank of Professor of Philosophy with a focus on Philosophy of development and Philosophy of Method. In addition to academic work, Wamala has also executed administrative tasks, first when he Coordinated the Ethics and Public Management Program when it was established in the early 1990s, and also headed the Department of Philosophy for 12 years, up to the time of his retirement in March 2013
He won a grant (in College of Humanities and Social Sciences CHUSS) to research on the theme of “Historicizing the Humanities in Makerere University, Since 1922,” which lasted up to September, 2022, and resulted into a publication of a book chapter. He has published several papers in different journals.
Wamala has engaged with several professional/academic bodies like, Research in values and Philosophy (RSVP), Haki Africa, American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), African philosophy society, Makerere Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (MAKSSREC)
