Baryakabona Silver

Assistant Lecturer

Baryakabona Silver is an assistant lecturer of Extension and Technology dissemination in the department of Agricultural Sciences at Kabale University. He holds a Master of Science in Agroecology of Uganda Martyrs University and he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Agroecology and Food Systems in the same University.  He has vast experience as a teacher, trainer, and researcher, and focuses on students’ hands-on practical activities on both crops and livestock.  He has supervised over 40 undergraduate students’ research. His major areas of interest are Participatory extension methods and techniques, sustainable Crop protection, Soil biology, Agronomy, soil fertility management, and Organic agriculture.

He has developed a number of academic programmes for Kabale University and other higher institutions of learning.

He worked with the Ministry of Education as a teacher of Agriculture Double Main (ADM) before joining Kabale University.

Qualifications

  • 2018- Todate: PhD student at Uganda Martyrs University
  • 2013- 2015: Master of Science in Agroecology of Uganda Martyrs University.
  • 2000-2002:  Bachelor of Education (Agriculture) of Makerere University Kampala.
  • 1995-1997: Diploma in Education (Agriculture) from the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo.
  • 1193-1995: Advanced level from St. Mary’s College Rushoroza and was awarded Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
  • 1989-1992: Ordinary level from St. Mary’s College Rushoroza and was awarded Uganda Certificate of Education.
  • 1982-1988:  Primary seven from St. Mary’s Boy’s Rushoroza, Kabale.

Employment Record:

2007 Todate: Assistant Lecturer at Kabale University.  During my stay at this University, I have taught and assessed students’ work. I have developed different academic programmes  for the University; Diploma (Agriculture) for Primary, Bachelor of Education Agriculture for Primary and Secondary, Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management and Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management. I have guided and supervised over 40 undergraduate students from both the departments of Environment and Natural resources and Open Learning.  I have also participated in training of school leavers in specialized skills for self reliance and development.

2012- 2018: Assistant lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture- Uganda Martyrs University- Kabale Campus.  I taught, assessed, trained and guided students in their career development. I also developed different academic programmes for the University; Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Technology, Bachelor of Agriculture with Education and Certificate in Agriculture

1997- 2019: Teacher of Agriculture at St. Mary’s College, Rushoroza, Kabale. During my stay, I taught, examined and assessed students’ work, worked as a head of department agriculture, farm manager, farm supervisor and participated in a number of career development trainings for academic improvements.
