Master of Science in Chemistry

The programme shall provide first-hand knowledge, experience and applications of advanced Chemistry topics to foster students’ research experience. The programme will be run on a regular basis during the day. It will be based on course work and dissertation. The programme aims at producing professionals who are specialized and competent instructors, rich in Chemistry content and professional knowledge. It considers the fact that recent global developments put heavy demands on the qualifications and continue to form a growing need for highly qualified professionals to teach and to serve in the diverse specialties of applied Chemistry. Application-based approach shall be taken to relate several of the taught courses to industry, medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and environment. Applications to real life situations will be explored to increase confidence of the student and appreciation of the course. This MSc. Chemistry will be research based in that students will spend their second year in a research laboratory working on an independent research project. The students will carry 5 out exclusive experiments, and gain valuable critical thinking skills by analyzing data and planning the next steps in their research projects. This will result into a written dissertation and an oral defense (viva voce) of their research project/ dissertation

Candidates intending to enroll for the MSc. Chemistry programme must be holders of at least a second-class lower degree from a University recognized by Uganda National Council for Higher Education like;

  1. Bachelor of Science, with Chemistry as major.
  2. Education honors, with Chemistry as major.
  3. Bachelor of Education, with Chemistry as major
  4. Industrial Chemistry.
  5. Chemical Engineering.
  6. Technology Chemistry.
