Master of Medicine in Surgery

The Master of Medicine in Surgery program, offered by the Department of Surgery at Kabale School of Medicine, is designed to address the critical global shortage of surgical care, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Uganda. With a focus on improving surgical services in rural communities of South Western Uganda, this curriculum aims to equip the next generation of surgeons with the skills and knowledge needed to significantly reduce the gap in access to safe and affordable surgical care, fulfilling a vital role towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals.

Entry requirements

Minimum requirements for admission for the Master of Medicine in General Surgery are as below:

  1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or its equivalent from recognized institution.
  2. The candidate must be fully registered with the relevant Medical Practitioners’ Council.
  3. Post internship employment as a medical officer in active clinical practice for at least two years after full registration will be compulsory.
  4. Candidate should be proficient in English or provide a certificate of English proficiency if the language of instruction in the previous institution was not English.
