Master of Information Science

Information Science is a wide field which covers many academic fields like Library science, Records management, Documentation, Archives, Informatics, Informetrics and Bibliometrics. The proposed course content will enrich students to understand the core ideas in Library, Records, Documentation, Archives and Information management generally which helps to position graduates in global practice across academic disciplines.

 

The program will be run on regular basis (week end) and shall be a two-year academic program. This program is by course work and dissertation. The structure and scope of this program will engage students in rigorous course work and research that spans over the duration of the program.

The main objective of the program is to raise the profile of the profession by producing highly trained professionals who are competent and proficient in matters pertaining to information management. Specific objectives include;

  1. Train high-level personnel in the theory and practice of Library and Information science;
  2. Impart graduates with higher professional qualification for both professional practice and research;
  3. Prepare a core cadre of dedicated Library, Records and Information scientists (managers) as catalysts for rapid professional development, revival and growth of Public Library Information services in Uganda in particular and across globe in general;
  4. Graduate students well equipped and enabled senior members of the profession to manage key resources both in the hybrid and fully digitized library services.

Candidates to be admitted for this program must have a minimum of a Second Class Lower Division and above in Library Science or related profession i.e. Information Technology, Computer Science, etc. obtained from institutions recognized and/or accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
