Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology
Biotechnology is a biological discipline that applies a variety of techniques to manipulate living organisms, their parts, products and services to improve human wellbeing. It is an inter disciplinary programme that embrace disciplines such as biology, chemistry, engineering Agriculture and computing. Biotechnology knowledge and skills have been traditionally used in baking bread, brewing beer and making cheese and yoghurt. Currently the world is experiencing global challenges that range from climate change emergence of diseases and increased pollution that require technological advancements. Biotechnology is recognized today as a potentially powerful catalyst for socio-economic growth through the development of new curative products, improved plant and animal breeds that are drought and pest tolerant, high yielding and increased nutritional value. The proposed BSc Biotechnology at Kabale University is to meet the immediate demand for professionals in Biotechnology or biosciences as an enterprise in Uganda.
