The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology is a key partner and collaborator of Kabale University in advancing research, innovation, and scientific capacity development. Established in 1990 through an Act of Parliament (CAP 209), the Council operates as a semi-autonomous government agency mandated to guide the nation’s science, technology, and innovation agenda.
Functioning under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Office of the President, UNCST plays a central role in shaping policies and strategies that integrate science and technology into Uganda’s development framework. The Council provides strategic advice to government, coordinates national research and development efforts, and promotes the responsible generation and application of scientific knowledge.
With a vision of creating a science and technology led country, UNCST is committed to driving national progress through innovation. Its mission focuses on offering effective and forward-thinking leadership in the promotion and application of science and technology for sustainable development.
Kabale University continues to benefit from this partnership through capacity building initiatives, collaborative research engagements, support to innovators, and national-level programmes that strengthen the university’s contribution to Uganda’s development priorities.
