National Drug Authority (NDA)

The National Drug Authority is one of Kabale University’s strategic partners in safeguarding public health through strengthened regulation of drugs, healthcare products, and related technologies. Established in 1993 under the National Drug Policy and Authority Statute, later consolidated into the National Drug Policy and Authority Act (Cap. 198), NDA was created to ensure that all Ugandans have access to essential, safe, efficacious, and cost-effective medicines.

NDA plays a central regulatory role in Uganda’s healthcare system by overseeing the manufacture, importation, distribution, and use of human and veterinary drugs. Through this mandate, the Authority promotes appropriate drug use, protects the public from substandard or harmful products, and supports national efforts to improve health outcomes.

Guided by its vision of becoming a world class drug regulatory agency, NDA is committed to protecting and promoting human and animal health through effective regulation. Its mission is anchored in values that emphasize care for the people of Uganda, integrity, teamwork, professionalism, and innovation.

Kabale University continues to collaborate with NDA in areas of training, research, regulatory awareness, and capacity building to strengthen competencies in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical practice, public health, and related disciplines. This partnership enhances the University’s contribution to a safer and more resilient healthcare system for Uganda.
