Intellectual Property Policy

The Kabale University Intellectual Property Policy (IPP) – October 2024 outlines the framework for the recognition, protection, and management of intellectual property (IP) created by staff, students and collaborators of Kabale University.

This policy addresses the critical need to safeguard new ideas, inventions, designs, artworks, and research outputs, ensuring they are properly protected, exploited, and their benefits equitably shared. It was developed in response to the growing risk of losing valuable creations due to the absence of formal IP guidelines.

The policy aims to:

  • Encourage innovation and high-impact research.

  • Provide legal and institutional mechanisms for securing patents, copyrights, and trademarks.

  • Facilitate commercial exploitation of IPs.

  • Align with national and international IPR standards.

By implementing this policy, Kabale University demonstrates its commitment to supporting creators and promoting knowledge-based development.
