The Department of Anaesthesia at Kabale University is a hub of academic excellence, innovation, and clinical leadership, dedicated to transforming peri-operative care and anaesthesia practices in Uganda and beyond. With a strong focus on education, research, and community engagement, the department is committed to training the next generation of healthcare professionals, improving the safety and quality of anaesthesia services, and advancing global health equity.

Academic Leadership

The department offers cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate programs in anaesthesia and peri-operative medicine, combining rigorous academic training with hands-on clinical experience. Our programs aim to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the unique challenges of anaesthesia in low-resource settings. Guided by a team of experienced and internationally recognized faculty, the department emphasizes leadership, innovation, and compassionate patient care.

Research and Innovation

The department is actively engaged in impactful research that addresses critical healthcare challenges in Uganda and the broader East African region. Key areas of focus include maternal and neonatal anaesthesia, WHO safe surgery in low-resource rural settings, and innovations in regional anaesthesia techniques. By producing evidence-based solutions and publishing in high impact peer-reviewed journals, the department contributes to the global discourse on improving anaesthesia safety and accessibility.

World Day for Regional Anaesthesia Celebrations: 2025

The Department of Anaesthesia is proud to host annual celebrations for the 1st and 2nd World Day for Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine (WDRAP), a global event that highlights the role of regional anaesthesia in improving patient outcomes, reducing peri-operative risks, and advancing sustainable healthcare solutions.
