Department of Open and Distance Learning
As the country strives to meet the millennium goals among which is enhancement of levels of literacy and ICT proficiency among the population, there emerges escalated demand for further training and education. More so, the new Teacher Education Policy demands every teacher to attain at least a degree to be able to teach in any school in Uganda.
Together with ever increasing number of schools, these factors leverage the department of Open Learning and Computer Education mandate to align and offer pertinent courses to counteract the demand. Department of Open Learning and Computer Education is one of the coordinating units in the Faculty of Education that serves the in-service training program majorly with the aim to allow teachers who like to upgrade attend the training during holidays. The main candidates include Grade III graduates from PTCs and Grade V from NTCs and universities.
The study program runs in a way that students attend lectures in (usually known as face-to-face) one holiday period and written modules are subsequently given for further reading; then appear for end of trimester examination in the subsequent holiday.
