Odong Patrick is a librarian at Kabale University in Uganda. He has taught in various institutions as a part-time lecturer: Kabale University teaching library and records management-related courses; Uganda Christian University Teaching Research methods and ICT-related courses; and IUIU teaching library and records courses.
Patrick is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Information Science and Research at Makerere University. He holds a master’s degree in information technology from Nkumba University, a bachelor’s degree in library and information science First Class from Uganda Christian University, and a diploma in Library and Information Science from Kyambogo University. Patrick has taken several short courses in relation to library and Records work and data management. This includes electronic resource management, Data Analysis, Dspace and KOHA system management, and plagiarism detection using Turnitin software.
Patrick has had library working experience since 2009; he has progressed through library ranks as an Assistant Librarian, Senior Assistant Librarian, librarian at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Librarian at the Ministry of Education and Sport, and currently Librarian at Kabale University. Patrick has also worked as a records officer at Amolatar District. Patrick has also worked as an information technology technician at the Electoral Commission of Uganda, which was short-term employment in 2016.
Patrick has worked in both the public and private sectors in the areas of libraries, records, and Information Technology. At the professional level, Patrick has been General Secretary of the Uganda Library and Information Association since 2021 and has also been an Eastern regional coordinator for the Uganda Library and Information Science Association (ULIA) from 2012 to 2017. As a Librarian, Patrick is responsible for technical library operations, including classifications and cataloging in both manual and Online Library systems, making sure the library is up to date with current systems, and training staff and students on using plagiarism detection using Turnitin software at Kabale University Library.
