Dr. Godwin B. Turyasingura is a practicing Obstetrician/Gynecologist, researcher, and demographer. He holds Masters’s Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Demography, and a Bachelors’ Degree in Medicine and Surgery. Currently (since April 2017) Godwin is working as a lecturer and the founding Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM). Godwin is the chairperson of the Training & Quality Assurance Sub-committee of Kabale University COVID-19 Taskforce.
Godwin has extensive experience in conducting research and evaluation in Sexual and Reproductive Health/ HIV/AIDS issues and has undertaken many consultancies related to reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and demographic issues for several international and national organizations.

Carried out a Mid-term Review of UNFPA Supported maternal, Child Health / Family Planning (MCH/FP) Country Programme. The goals of this programme were to create the technical and infrastructural capacity in the country to provide comprehensive MCH/FP services; thus increasing the contraceptive prevalence rate, increase the number of supervised deliveries and prevent the transmission of AIDS.
In reviewing this programme, my role was to take stock of the achievements made that far, identify factors facilitating or constraining implementation of the programme, assess the organizational and management structures and propose corrective or strengthening measures. This was successfully done resulting into further extension of the programme reviewed.
- CARE-Uganda 1992
Conducted a baseline survey for a CARE Supported Community Reproductive Health Project for South –Western Uganda. The Objective was to establish a baseline level of information about knowledge and use patterns of modern contraceptives and reproductive health patterns of the area, before an intervention project supported by CARE would be designed and implemented. This baseline data would also serve as a basis for monitoring the impact of such an intervention.
The survey was successfully conducted, a workshop held to design the intervention project and the project has been implemented since 1993.

Carried out an evaluation of UNFPA Supported maternal Child Health and Family Planning Project in Uganda. The aim of this evaluation was to understand how well the project is moving towards its objectives, so that necessary changes/adjustments are made for improvement. The evaluation was carried out and the extent to which project objective have been achieved were assessed. Constraints to project implementation were identified and recommendations on adjustments necessary were made. To date, most of these recommendations have been implemented to put the project on course.

Conducted a “State of the Art” review of Youth programmes in Uganda. In the process, the following were identified; Planned and on-going youth projects in the country. Specific strategies related to the youth used in these projects: Strength, weaknesses/gaps in current approaches. As a result, opportunities for areas of intervention were highlighted. Suitable areas and approaches for intervention were suggested including appropriate and pertinent national institutional framework, potential partners for management and implementation projects designed to enhance the reproductive health of the youths in Uganda.

Facilitated a national workshop as a follow up on the State of the Art review, during which a Youth Programme called PROGRAMME FOR ENHANCING ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE LIFE IN UGANDA (PEARL) was drafted. Medical Needs Assessment of the Rural Extended Relief (RESCUER) project.
