Job Title: Deputy Vice Chancellor/ Academic Affairs
Salary Scale: PU2
Tenure: Five- Year (5) Contract
Responsible to: Vice Chancellor
Duty Station: Kabale University, Kikungiri Main Campus, Kabale Municipality

Purpose of the Job

  • To provide leadership and coordination of teaching, research and publications matters including policy and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiates, obtains approval of and promotes policies, plans and programs that enhance the academic and professional excellence of the university
  • Oversees the development, implementation and review of the policy framework for monitoring the quality, standards and management of the Universities academic programs.
  • Ovesses the preparation of academic and research related budgets, for all Faculties Schools, Institutes, Colleges or other academic bodies.
  • Oversees the planning, development and review of undergraduate, postgraduate research programs and any other academic programs of the University
  • Oversees the selection and admission for students
  • Leads and Coordinates the development and review of curricula for academic programs offered at the University.
  • Monitors compliance in setting and marking all examinations in accordance to established regulations
  • Coordinates the appointment of academic staff and external examiners
  • Overseas optimal utilization and management of existing teaching and research funds and facilities
  • Oversees distinguished scholars recruited and retained and suitable external examiners appointed.

Person Specifications:

Academic qualifications, experience, skills and competences:

  • Should have an earned PhD from recognized and reputable University/Institution
  • Should have at least ten (10) years of proved experience in teaching, research, leadership and administration, at least four (4) of which should have been at the rank of Dean of Faculty or equivalent in a reputable institution.
  • Be at least at the rank of Associate Professor at the time of application
  • Should demonstrate academic leadership through publication and research output (at least 8 publications in reputable journals)
  • Have an understanding of the relevant legal framework for management of higher education in Uganda
  • Should have good leadership, communication, negotiation and people skills
  • Should be a person of high integrity
